The 2020 year is wrapping up, and the memes are (justifiably) endless. It has been a bit chaotic. If ever there were a time we needed a “refresh” button, it’d be now.
While we turn the page to 2021, it may not be a magical, overnight difference; however, hitting the “refresh” button on our own homes can shift our perspective. And that instant change is a bit magical.
There has been a lot of social distancing and quarantining. It seems like there is light at the end of the tunnel, and we want you to be ready for it. You’re going to want to make up for all the visits you’ve had to miss with loved ones. A good start would be to finally get that guest room in order with a new mattress and fresh pillows and linens. Add a little extra with a welcome tray of slippers, robe, water, a nice HW candle and a small treat from your favorite local bakery.
Sometimes switching out a smaller piece can make a big difference. Instead of changing out your entire dining area, perhaps you keep the table that you love, but swap out your chairs for some modern swivel chairs. We’ve been stationary long enough — add a little motion to your home.
The minimalist bandwagon isn’t just a fad. Clearing the clutter not only frees up your home, but also your mind. If you haven’t worn it in the past 12 months, it’s time to say goodbye (along with 2020). If you don’t have a closet organization system, maybe consider adding something to your closet this year. It creates a sense of peace when you walk into a room that isn’t cluttered. You don’t want to walk into chaos first thing every morning. This applies to all the rooms of your home.
If you’re not sure where to start, just start small. Add some fresh flowers in a vase that makes you happy. You could swap out some artwork, repaint an entry door, add an accent wall with wallpaper or a pop of color, or change up an old tired chair for a vibrant accent piece. You could also revamp a space you don’t use into a functional space that you’re in need of. Did you take up a hobby during quarantine? Crafting? Photography? Cake decorating? Give yourself space to do the things you enjoy. As always, if you’re in need of a little guidance, the HOUSEWORKS team is here if you need us.
